ABOUT DARREN THORNE
Darren Thorne is a lifelong Hampshire County resident, farmer, husband, father, and grandfather who believes public service should be rooted in faith, hard work, and common sense.
Raised in Slanesville by a single mother, Darren learned early the values that still guide his life today: personal responsibility, resilience, and service to others. His mother worked long days for the local school system, never relying on government assistance, and instilled in her children the importance of independence, faith, and perseverance. Darren credits her strength and sacrifice as the foundation of his character.
Darren met his wife in high school in 1988, and they have been married for 30+ years. Together, they have built a life rooted in agriculture and family. While Darren spent years working as an owner operator truck driver, he and his wife steadily grew their farming operation. In 2007, they purchased the family farm, and today their operation spans two farms and includes a commercial poultry business. Their twin son and daughter were raised on the farm, and Darren is now proud to be a grandfather of two.
Before entering public office, Darren never planned to be a politician. He stepped forward because he believed the government had gone too far, especially during COVID, when sweeping mandates threatened personal freedom and local decision-making. That moment pushed him to run, to protect the liberties of everyday West Virginians.
As a legislator, Darren is guided by two principles above all else: his faith and the Constitution. He describes himself first and foremost as a Christian conservative and his legislative priorities reflect that belief. He has consistently voted to limit emergency powers, protect parental rights, defend religious freedom, prohibit irreversible medical procedures on minors, and ensure informed consent in healthcare decisions. He believes families, not bureaucrats, are best equipped to make decisions for their children.
Darren and his family attend Delray Christian Church, a small rural congregation that reflects the close-knit community he represents.
